Kenya and Finland have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the health sector, with a renewed focus on enhancing health systems and expanding access to primary health care across the country.
Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale today hosted a high-level Finnish delegation led by Mr. Jarno Syrjälä, Deputy Minister for International Trade at Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
The meeting centered on exploring new avenues of collaboration that align with Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) goals and broader Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
CS Duale lauded Finland’s ongoing support, emphasizing the vital role of international partnerships in driving sustainable, people-centered health outcomes.
He highlighted Finland’s contribution through bilateral programs, technical expertise, and capacity building initiatives that have significantly boosted the resilience of Kenya’s health infrastructure.
A key highlight of the partnership is the EUR 19.37 million VAMED Project, which is currently facilitating the delivery of turnkey medical equipment and the refurbishment of maternal and newborn care units in 20 health facilities across 12 counties.
The initiative is expected to significantly reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rates while accelerating progress towards UHC.
“This collaboration exemplifies our shared vision of building a robust, inclusive health system that delivers quality care to every Kenyan,” said CS Duale.
Also present at the meeting were Public Health Principal Secretary Ms. Mary Muthoni and Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, who underscored the importance of sustained international engagement in driving health sector reforms.
The Kenya-Finland partnership continues to serve as a model of effective international cooperation in health, with both countries committing to deepen ties for improved health outcomes.
