President William Ruto has vowed to do whatever it takes to ensure that the Kamba region is fully integrated into government ahead of the next general election.
Speaking in Kibwezi, Makueni County, as he kicked off a four-day development tour of the region, the President said it was unfortunate that Ukambani had remained in the opposition for decades, missing out on key development opportunities.
“Kwa vyovyote, mbele na nyuma, kulia na kushoto, juu na chini, hii Ukambani haiwezi kukaa upinzani tena,” Ruto told the crowd amid cheers. (By all means possible, this Ukambani will never again remain in the opposition.)
The Head of State admitted that he bore part of the blame for the region’s political isolation in the past, noting that his team had neglected Ukambani and allowed opponents to “mislead” residents into opposition politics.
“Tell them that Ruto has arrived and has said Ukambani is leaving the opposition to join the government,” he declared, urging residents to embrace his administration’s development agenda.
The President further took a swipe at his political rivals, accusing them of lacking concrete plans to transform the region. He said what the people of Ukambani need are tangible services such as roads, water, and electricity — not empty political rhetoric.
“Mtu kama hana mpango, sera, agenda au akili atabadilisha Ukambani namna gani?” he posed. (If someone has no plan, policy, agenda, or sense, how will they transform Ukambani?)
Ruto also cautioned leaders who he said were obsessed with political slogans and power-sharing deals instead of development-focused leadership.
“I already warned you — if you keep repeating things like ‘one-term,’ ‘Kasongo,’ or ‘must go,’ you won’t win the votes of these people,” he said.
