President William Ruto has launched the construction of the 20-kilometre Emali–Matiliku road, a key section of the 42-kilometre Emali–Ukia road in Ndundune, Makueni County.

The KSh1.1 billion project is expected to open up major market access points by linking Kativani, Manywani, Matiliku, Kalamba, Nziu, and Ukia trading centres, as well as connecting Wote town to Kajiado, Nairobi, and Mombasa.

Once completed, the road will significantly cut transport costs, enhance the movement of goods and people, and promote trade in perishable and livestock products.

The improved infrastructure will also enable farmers to reach markets faster, reducing post-harvest losses and boosting household incomes.

According to the government, the project is part of its broader agenda to expand rural infrastructure and spur economic growth across counties through improved connectivity.
