Lamu County has been thrown into mourning following the death of Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua Ndung’u.

Munyua breathed his last on Friday, September 6, while receiving treatment at a medical facility yet to be disclosed.

President William Ruto took to X to mourn the politician, describing him as a progressive leader who worked tirelessly for the greater good of the people of Lamu.

"I am saddened by the news of the passing away of the Deputy Governor of Lamu County Raphael Munyua Ndung’u. He was a progressive leader who worked tirelessly for the greater good of the people of Lamu. Our love and prayers to the family, friends and the people of Lamu County at this sad moment," said Ruto.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua described him as a highly dedicated and development-oriented person who served the people of Lamu with the utmost diligence and professionalism.

Munyua secured the Lamu Deputy Governor position after successfully running on a joint Amani National Congress (ANC) ticket alongside current Governor Issa Timamy.
