Hundreds of Kenyans gathered in churches across the country to usher in 2025, seeking blessings and divine guidance for the year ahead.

Religious leaders emphasized the need for reconciliation and harmony, urging congregants to foster peace within their homes, communities, and the nation.

“God is love, you must love your enemies as you love yourself. God is mercy, you must show mercy to others may the grace of the Lord be upon you.”said Abraham Mulwa, Country Presiding Bishop of the African Inland Church (AIC).

At the Holy Family Basilica and All Saints Cathedral, clergy addressed pressing issues facing Kenyans, calling on the government to prioritize justice and end abductions. PCEA Moderator Thegu stressed the church’s commitment to holding leaders accountable.

“We pray for the President to remain focused. While we support his leadership, we must also remain prophetic and tell the government where it has fallen short, even when we are told to ‘shut up,’” Thegu stated.

Mulwa echoed the sentiment, calling for collective reflection. “This is the year we must turn to God in confidence that He hears us. After 60 years, we need to look back and see where we have gone wrong,” he said.

The transition from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to the Social Health Authority also drew criticism from church leaders, who urged the government to focus on service delivery rather than discussing term limit extensions.

“We feel very sad because young people are vital to our country. When they are terrorized, we are terrorizing our future. We call on the State to stop abductions,” Thegu emphasized.

Catholic Bishop Antony Ngala of Migori added, “We pray that the Lord may grant us good leadership and love for one another. Abductions must end for the sake of our future.”

The clergy’s messages resonated with congregants, setting a tone of hope and accountability for the year ahead.
