President William Ruto has lauded the African Development Bank (AfDB) for its pivotal role in driving Kenya’s and Africa’s sustainable economic growth, highlighting its impact on key sectors such as energy, food security, and infrastructure.

Speaking at State House, Nairobi, President Ruto commended AfDB’s contributions to accelerating universal electricity access, strengthening food security, and enhancing regional integration.

He specifically praised the institution’s leadership under Dr. Akinwumi Adesina for championing Africa’s development agenda.

“The Bank has not only accelerated universal electricity access, strengthened food security, and promoted infrastructure development, but has also deepened regional integration,” said Ruto. “We celebrate AfDB’s bold and visionary leadership, particularly Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, for facilitating Kenya – and Africa – to unlock its potential and improve people’s lives.”

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, President Ruto conferred upon Dr. Adesina Kenya’s highest civilian honor, the Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart (C.G.H.), in appreciation of his leadership in advancing economic transformation across the continent.

AfDB has been instrumental in financing various development projects in Kenya, including the expansion of roads, water systems, and agricultural initiatives aimed at ensuring food security. The bank’s investments have significantly contributed to Kenya’s economic progress, aligning with the government’s long-term vision for sustainable development.

The ceremony at State House underscored Kenya’s continued partnership with AfDB in fostering inclusive growth, innovation, and economic resilience across Africa.
