President William Ruto has called for stronger global solidarity to confront inequality and promote inclusive social development that puts people at the centre of progress.

Speaking on behalf of the African Group during the United Nations Social Development Summit in Doha, Qatar, President Ruto said:

“We call for global solidarity to confront inequality in social development to build inclusive societies that put people at the centre of progress. While the world has made strides in reducing poverty and expanding access to essential services, unequal systems of trade, finance, and technology continue to hold many nations back.”

The Head of State noted that despite global progress in reducing poverty, many developing countries continue to face structural barriers that limit their participation in global growth.

He urged for urgent reforms within the United Nations system and called for justice for Africa through fairer financial structures, debt relief, digital inclusion, and universal access to healthcare and affordable housing—stressing that these must be recognized as essential rights rather than acts of charity.

President Ruto reaffirmed Africa’s collective commitment to global equity and dignity, adding that the continent fully supports the Doha Declaration and stands with the Group of 77 and China in advancing a fairer and more inclusive world where all nations have equal opportunities to prosper.
