Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has been elected chairperson of the powerful Senate Standing Committee on Energy.
Oburu, who is the brother to former premier Raila Odinga, was elected unanimously to the position on Thursday, February 20.
He will be deputized by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator William Kipkemoi Kisang.
Members of the powerful committee include; Danson Buya Mungatana, Mohamed Abass Sheikh, Boni Khalwale, Olekina Ledama, Ekomwa James Lomenen and Edwin Sifuna.
The committee is tasked with considering all matters related to fossil fuels exploration, development, production, maintenance, and regulation of energy.
The committee was previously chaired by Nyeri Senator Wamatinga Wahome, a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
