EACC witness Abdi Mohamud has called attention to the legal obligations of public officers regarding the declaration of gifts during the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking at a recent Senate hearing, Mohamud emphasized that all gifts valued at over Sh20,000 must be declared by public officers, including state officials.
He stated, “Gifts that are of value of more than Sh20,000 are supposed to be handed in and declared by all public officers.
If indeed cows or any other gifts have been donated to a public officer, these donations are supposed to be reported to the State.”
This declaration comes amid allegations related to Gachagua’s conduct and potential misuse of public office.
Mohamud’s testimony has sparked discussions on the importance of transparency and accountability among public officials.
Mohamud’s statements underscore the need for vigilance in managing potential conflicts of interest within the government, particularly as the impeachment proceedings unfold.
