Stakeholders in Kenya’s private security sector want the government to hurry up with the enactment of the Private Security Regulations 2025 that they consider a vital framework for the full enactment of the Private Security Regulation Act of 2016.
Industry representatives through their voice at a public participation forum in Nyeri, said the draft regulations have been delayed for a very long time and they are the most important to enhance the control, professional standards, and sector accountability.
When the regulations come into force, the security providers will have to be licensed as a requirement; the guards will have to undergo the accredited training; the vetting procedures will be more rigorous and the security officers will be forbidden to possess firearms as per the proposed rules.
Theirs is to note that the regulations will, among other things, ease the running of the industry across the board, pave a way for full compliance with the national law, and be a big step to the governance and the private security sector’s credibility improvement.
