President William Ruto on Thursday, launched a multi-billion shilling development projects across Kitui county marking the government’s fresh drive for infrastructural, electrification, housing, and water supply developments in the region.
During the tour, the Head of State inspected the ongoing construction of the Kamuw’ongo Fresh Produce Market in Mwingi North, expected to accommodate about 200 traders upon completion.
He also launched the tarmacking of the Kamuw’ongo–Kandwia Road, a KSh 1 billion project intended to enhance transport and trade in the area.
President Ruto also pledged to tarmack the 30-kilometre dusty road leading to Tseikuru, the home village of former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.
In an effort to increase rural electrification, Mr. President launched the Kitui Last Mile Electrification Project and announced that his administration had allocated KSh 2.3 billion to connect 20,000 residents to the national power grid.
On housing, President Ruto committed KSh 15 billion towards the construction of 6,000 affordable housing units, 11 modern markets, and 6,000-bed capacity student hostels across Kitui County.
The President also witnessed the issuance of 15,000 title deeds to residents of Kamuw’ongo in Mwingi North, part of the government’s current efforts to regularize land ownership.
He later inspected the construction of the 33-kilometre Tulia–Mbondoni Road in Mwingi West and made a commitment of KSh 6 billion to the Kindaruma Water Project, which is intended to ensure water supply from Migwani through to Mwingi.
In the health sector, President Ruto promised KSh 3.5 billion to equip hospitals across the county. He also donated KSh 5 million each to Muthale Secondary School and Migwani Secondary School to boost educational development.
In Kitui South, the President launched construction of the Ikutha–Kanziku–Mutha–Motomo Road and issued another 15,000 title deeds for residents of Ikutha, out of the 42,000 ready for issuance in the county.
Also, President Ruto officially opened the Kitui East Huduma Centre in Zombe and launched the Kitui East Technical and Vocational College, which will be equipped with modern equipment worth KSh 70 million.
Another KSh 150 million was pledged to put up student hostels at the institution. The President concluded the tour by launching the construction of the Chuluni–Zombe Road in Kitui East, a KSh 1.4 billion project expected to enhance connectivity and economic growth in the area.
