Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, a Nigerian politician and businessman, has responded to the wide-ranging claims that he married actress Regina Daniels when she was 17 years old.
The senator described the allegations as “entirely untrue and misleading” in a recent post on Facebook. He explained that during his maiden meeting with Regina, he had asked about her age, to which she replied that she was 21 years old at the time. To confirm, she tendered her INEC voter’s card; it shows her date of birth as 10th October, 1998, making her an adult when they tied the knot.
“I told her I was retaining it, and since then, I have held onto the document,” said Nwoko in his statement on oath. He also referred to an interview on BBC with Regina’s mother which supported his version.
The senator further clarified that they got married six years ago, which means Regina is currently 27 years old, and any insinuation of underage marriage is false and malicious.
He called upon the public to regard such statements “with caution and discernment.” He noted that Regina has faced personal challenges, including a period of rehabilitation.
The statement comes amid renewed online discussions about the couple’s age difference and marriage timeline which has surfaced several times since their high-profile union in 2019.
