During the funeral of former IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, President William Ruto made a promise to support the construction of new classrooms at a school in Trans Nzoia County. The President confirmed that the school will be renamed to honor Chebukati’s contributions to the country, and 15 new classrooms will be built as part of the development project.
“I agree with your representative here that the nearby school will be renamed, and I will help build 15 classrooms for that school,” President Ruto said, emphasizing the importance of preserving Chebukati’s legacy.
In addition to the classrooms, President Ruto also pledged to build an ICT center at the school, further recognizing Chebukati’s role in enhancing electoral integrity through technology. “We will build that school in honor of that respected leader, a patriotic citizen of the Republic of Kenya,” Ruto added.
The pledge followed a request from Kiminini MP Bisau Kakai, who appealed for assistance in expanding Sabata Secondary School, including acquiring more land and building additional classrooms. “We request you to help us buy land for this school and rename it Wafula Chebukati Centre of Excellence. We also hope for more structures, including an ICT center,” Kakai said.
This promise from President Ruto aims to honor Chebukati’s lasting influence on Kenya’s electoral process and ensure his legacy is remembered through the growth of education in the region.
