President William Ruto, on the third day of his tour of Central Kenya, inspected the construction of the J.M. Kariuki Memorial County Referral Hospital, a flagship healthcare project expected to transform medical service delivery in Nyandarua County.
The 500-bed Level 5 hospital will provide a wide range of medical services, including inpatient and outpatient care, imaging, laboratory diagnostics, emergency response, and maternal and child healthcare. Once completed, the facility is set to significantly boost healthcare access for residents, reducing the need for long-distance referrals to hospitals outside the county.
Speaking during the inspection, President Ruto reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure across the country. “We are investing in modern, well-equipped hospitals to ensure every Kenyan has access to quality medical care,” he stated.
The President was accompanied by Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni, as well as other senior government officials and local leaders. The project aligns with the government’s broader agenda of strengthening county healthcare systems to provide affordable and accessible medical services nationwide.
Residents of Nyandarua have welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the facility will alleviate congestion in existing health centers and improve specialized medical care within the county.
