Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has mourned the death of former Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel, describing him as a dedicated leader whose legacy will endure.

In a condolence message, Gachagua said he had received news of Lempurkel’s passing with great sorrow.

“I have learnt of the untimely passing on of Hon. Mathew Lempurkel with a heavy heart. Hon. Lempurkel was a member of the DCP party and former Member of Parliament for Laikipia North,” Gachagua stated.

He extended his sympathies to the bereaved family, urging them to find strength during this moment of grief.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may Almighty God grant strength, comfort, and fortitude to his family, loved ones, and all who cherished him during this moment of grief. My deepest sympathies to you all,” he added.

The former DP further noted that Lempurkel’s contribution to public service and his advocacy for the Maa community would be remembered.

“Hon. Mathew Lempurkel has departed, but his legacy will live on in our hearts,” he said.

Lempurkel, who served as Laikipia North MP between 2013 and 2017, died a week after being involved in a road accident in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County. He had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a Nairobi hospital before succumbing to his injuries.
