Kenyans, including political leaders, are calling for government intervention to save Margaret Macharia Nduta, who is facing execution in Vietnam after being found guilty of drug trafficking.
Nduta, who was sentenced to death on Thursday, March 6, is scheduled to be hanged today, unless otherwise.
As Kenyans called for government intervention, MP Babu Owino implored President William Ruto to call his Vietnam counterpart and negotiate for Nduta’s release, saying she was framed in the drug smuggling incident.
Addressing the call for Ruto to intervene, Gatundu North MP Elijah Njoroge Kururia revealed that the president and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had reached out to Vietnam.
Kururia said the government is awaiting a response from Vietnam, regretting that the country has remained adamant.
"I am reporting that the president and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have reached out to Vietnam over Nduta's case and are awaiting answers. They have remained adamant. I have heard many people asking if the president is aware. Yes, he knows and the Kenyan government is only awaiting a response," said Kururia.
