The Parliamentary Committee on Finance and National Planning has called on the Office of the Attorney General to develop a simplified version of the Finance Bill 2025 Amendment to ensure ordinary Kenyans can clearly understand the proposed changes before the Bill is tabled in Parliament.
Led by Committee Chairperson Kuria Kimani, the legislators made the appeal during a public participation forum held in Kiambu County on Thursday. The session was aimed at collecting public views on the proposed amendments ahead of the Bill’s scheduled reading in the National Assembly next week.
Kuria emphasized the importance of inclusive civic engagement, stating that the proposed law should be drafted in a manner that allows every Kenyan, regardless of education level, to grasp the clauses under review.“We urge the Office of the Attorney General to come up with a draft that is easy to read and understand.
This will allow even Kenyans in the lower cadres to fully comprehend what is being amended,” said Kuria.Despite the forum’s significance, turnout from the local population was low.
Several residents attributed the poor attendance to inadequate civic education and lack of awareness about the Bill and its implications.
The Committee reiterated its commitment to ensuring the public’s views are incorporated into the final document and stressed the need for continuous public engagement to strengthen democratic participation in the legislative process.
The Finance Bill 2025 Amendment is part of the government’s broader fiscal reform agenda and is expected to introduce key changes in taxation and revenue collection measures.
