Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale says more than 30 million Kenyans have now signed up under the new health cover as the government pushes its plan to improve healthcare.

In a post shared after meeting residents in Bungoma, Duale said the country is making steady progress under the Social Health Authority (SHA), which is now handling the new system.

According to him, since its introduction, the program has collected Ksh169 billion with Ksh124 billion being utilized to fund treatment all over the country.

He made his remarks after addressing a public meeting held in Bungoma County in which he addressed the residents and explained the government’s initiatives geared towards ensuring accessibility of health facilities.

He attributed the improvement of the availability of medical supplies through KEMSA to the fact that currently, only 38% of medication is unavailable in hospitals as opposed to the past when the figure stood at 62%.

Moreover, the CS noted that the government is implementing a technological initiative that has seen the distribution of more than 41,000 digitized devices in over 4,400 health facilities across the nation.

According to Duale, so far, over 851 devices have been installed in 171 hospitals in Bungoma making it one of the best performing counties in terms of the distribution.

In relation to the ‘Linda Jamii’ program funded by the social health insurance fund, Duale mentioned that so far, it has disbursed Ksh11 billion in support of maternal health.

The CS also announced that community health promoters would be incorporated into the program from July 1, 2026.

On the other hand, the CS urged health institutions to avoid fraudulent acts since the computerized system will aid in monitoring their services and taking appropriate actions for such acts of fraud.
