The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Human Trafficking Institute (HTI) to bolster the fight against human trafficking in Kenya.
The agreement, signed by Kenya’s Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga and HTI Chief Executive Officer Victor Boutros, marks a significant step toward enhancing the country’s capacity to prosecute trafficking offenses and deliver justice for victims.
“This agreement marks a significant advancement in inter-agency collaboration aimed at ensuring accessible justice and the effective prosecution of trafficking offenses in Kenya,” the ODPP said in a statement on Monday.
The partnership will see HTI—a U.S.-based non-profit renowned for its expertise in anti-trafficking strategies—provide targeted training, expert legal support, and investigative tools to Kenyan prosecutors.
The initiative will also support the implementation of Kenya’s Counter Trafficking in Persons Act No. 8 of 2010.
Victor Boutros hailed the deal as a vital step toward ending human trafficking. “We are honored to work alongside Kenya’s ODPP in building a robust and sustainable system to bring traffickers to justice and protect victims,” he said.
The MoU builds on a previous engagement between the two institutions held in November 2024, which laid the foundation for the strategic alliance.
