Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, today paid a working visit to the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), where he called for enhanced transparency, accountability, and renewed public trust in the agency’s operations.
Dr. Oluga was received by KEMSA CEO Dr. Andrew Wala Ejersa and later held a consultative session with the agency’s Board of Directors. The visit, aimed at familiarizing the PS with KEMSA’s operations, comes amid ongoing efforts to strengthen Kenya’s health supply chain and improve service delivery across the country.
“KEMSA plays a critical role in ensuring commodity security—one of the four foundational pillars of the health sector, alongside human resources for health, healthcare financing, and digitization,” Dr. Oluga stated.
He emphasized that restoring confidence in the agency is paramount as the Ministry of Health pushes forward with the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) programme. He urged the KEMSA leadership to fortify its governance structures and streamline its supply chain systems to support equitable access to essential medical commodities.
The PS’s visit is part of a broader initiative by the Ministry of Health to bolster institutional credibility and ensure that agencies like KEMSA are aligned with national health priorities.
Dr. Ejersa and the Board welcomed the PS’s message, reaffirming their commitment to institutional reforms, operational efficiency, and upholding integrity in medical procurement and distribution.
