The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended the licences of 62 Public Service Vehicle (PSV) drivers following a compliance assessment that exposed multiple violations and raised serious road safety concerns.
In a statement released on Friday, the Authority said the affected drivers are drawn from seven public transport operators and will be required to undergo mandatory re-testing before returning to the road.
The suspended drivers are from the following operators:
- Tahmeed Express Limited – 23 drivers
- Latema Travelers Bus and Safari Company Limited – 13 drivers
- Meru Nissan Operators Sacco – 10 drivers
- Moline Prestige Services Shuttle Limited – 6 drivers
- MTrans Sacco Limited – 7 drivers
- Enabled Mashariki Investment Limited – 3 drivers
The Authority said the crackdown forms part of a wider safety campaign targeting compliance within the PSV sector.
“Besides re-testing the identified drivers, the affected operators must organize road safety awareness training for all their drivers and present selected vehicles for inspection,” NTSA said.
The re-testing exercise, the Authority noted, is meant to ensure all drivers possess the necessary skills and competencies to operate safely, especially during the busy festive travel season.
NTSA added that several other operators remain under scrutiny to ensure full compliance with traffic regulations.
“These actions highlight our firm and ongoing commitment to road safety, particularly during this festive period,” the Authority said.
The statement was issued by the NTSA Communication Office.
