Kenyan artist Nikita Kering once again proved her courage on the continental stage, clinching the Best Female East Africa award at the 2026 AFRIMMA Awards in Dallas, Texas.

The victory has beaten her fellow Kenyan artists such as Njerae and Bridgit Blue as well as Tanzanian artist Abigail Chams and Zuchu, Ethiopian artist Veronica Adane and Salemia, Rwanda’s Ariel Wayz and Uganda Winnie Mwagi.

This marks her fifth AFRIMMA award since her two wins in 2019 and another two wins in 2021.

The AFRIMMA Awards are widely regarded as the premier platform for African music outside the continent, bringing together stars across Africa.

This win is remarkable not only for its consistency but also for the dedication in her work projects, including “The Lick Back,” a project she says was about revenge.

Other Kenyan artists nominated at this year’s AFRIMMA were Bien, who defeated Tanzanian artist Diamond Platnumz, Barnaba, Juma Jux, Ethiopian Lij Michael, South Sudan Single Dee, Ugandan Joshua Baraka and Eddy Kenzo.

For the Best Male East Africa award, Tanzanian artist Marioo was selected. In the awards, AFRIMMA chose 5ive, Davido as the Album of the Year, with Fally Ipupa nominated as the Artist of the Year. Best Female West Africa was Nigerian artist Tem and Timeless Impact Award was given to Nigerian artist Timaya, followed by Kenyan artist Nameless.
