Roads and Transport Ministry in collaboration with the Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (NaMATA) are holding workshops to collect views from stakeholders and the public in the five counties, on smooth urban mobility.
So far, workshops have been held in Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a and Kajiado counties, which fall under the Nairobi Metropolitan Area, to gather input from stakeholders and the public.
”The workshops will provide critical insights into a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP), aimed at enhancing efficient mobility within the Nairobi Metropolitan Area (NMA)”, said the Director General of NaMATA, Eng. Francis Gitau in a public notice.
Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority chairman, Benson Mutura is former Speaker of Nairobi City County Assembly. Mutura previously served as Member of Parliament for Makadara constituency.
On Monday, June 23, 2025 a workshop for stakeholders and members of the public in Machakos county, will be held at Gelian Hotel in Machakos town, starting 9:00 AM.
Mombasa road, the main artery from Machakos town and the neighborhoods to Nairobi, suffers a chronic gridlock, which NaMATA is on a mission to find solutions.
Nairobi is a cosmopolitan city, where virtually all roads leading into and out of the central business district are under perpetual traffic jam.
NaMATA Director General has invited all stakeholders and the general public in Machakos county, to attend and participate in the workshop.
The workshop, together with others that have already been in the four sister counties, form the first phase of the Metropolitan Stakeholders Sensitisation Workshops on the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan.
After concluding the three-day workshop in Machakos, the organisers have planned to hold a Webinar for all stakeholders via www.namata.go.ke on June 26, 2025, Eng. Gitau announced in a statement.
