Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has firmly dismissed allegations of a government scheme to undermine Chief Justice Martha Koome and the Judiciary.

This comes amidst public outcry over the reassignment of three police officers from the Chief Justice’s security detail.

The officers’ removal on Wednesday sparked speculation on social media, with political commentators questioning the government’s intentions.

However, Murkomen clarified in a statement seen by Newsline that the move was a routine administrative decision tied to promotions and training requirements.

“There is no scheme whatsoever to undermine Chief Justice Martha Koome or the Judiciary,” stated Murkomen. “What happened was purely an administrative matter involving officers who had been promoted and are leaving for training.”

He emphasized the government’s commitment to working collaboratively with public institutions without intimidation.

Murkomen also reassured the public of the government’s dedication to safeguarding all public officials entitled to security, asserting that such adjustments are standard procedure within law enforcement.

“I urge Kenyans not to misinterpret these routine changes,” he said. “The government remains steadfast in upholding the rule of law, supporting the Judiciary’s independence, and protecting public institutions.”

The statement comes in response to accusations by political figures that the security reassignment was part of a broader scheme to intimidate the Judiciary and interfere with its operations.

Murkomen concluded by calling for public confidence in the government’s efforts to maintain institutional integrity and support judicial autonomy.
