Supporters of President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua continued their disputes on Sunday, September 22, 2024, as MP Oscar Sudi claimed that a motion to remove the deputy president has gained traction.
Sudi stirred conversation on social media with his post, stating, “I repeat once again, two weeks home.”
Despite the impeachment threats, Gachagua expressed confidence, stating that he has left the matter in God’s hands, the same God who helped Ruto during his challenges under the Jubilee administration.
“The God who was there when it was promised that my deputy would not be mistreated, and the one who was there when he faced difficulties, is still here,” Gachagua said during a church service in Thika.
Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba alleged that plans to present this motion in Parliament are underway for next week.
“It is unfortunate that the president has allied with his new friends from ODM, and next week they plan to table a motion to remove the Deputy President from office. We urge the president to respect the votes he received from Mount Kenya and to stop the dirty schemes against the deputy president,” Wamuchomba stated at PEFA Church in Thika, where she joined others in defending Gachagua.
In a separate statement, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa claimed that the deputy president “stepped down from office a year ago,” adding that MPs intend to formalize that action through a parliamentary vote “before the year ends.” “No MP has been bribed. We have decided to set aside tribalism and vow that by the end of this year, Rigathi Gachagua will celebrate Christmas as an ordinary citizen,” Barasa said.
Gachagua’s allies insist they are prepared to counter the impeachment motion. Embakasi North MP James Gakuya expressed disappointment that the residents of Mount Kenya ignored former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s advice against supporting Dr. Ruto in the 2022 elections.
“Mount Kenya defied Uhuru and accepted to repay Ruto a political debt. We must learn that it is always good to repay kindness and good deeds. I want to remind the president not to forget his old friends just because he has new ones,” Gakuya stated.
Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru, known as Mejja Donk, highlighted the failure of leaders in Kenya to fulfill their promises. “Uhuru warned us against voting for Ruto.
He predicted we would be crying after two years. It is unfortunate that now we are not talking about development but about the wrongs you, President Ruto, are doing to your deputy and the people of Mount Kenya,” Gathiru said.
He added, “You have power and everything, but we have God in Heaven. You cannot continue deceiving Kenyans. Bring the motion to impeach Gachagua so we can address it in Parliament, but remember that before you do, the views of the people must be considered from one county to another.”
