Former Farmers Party leader Irungu Nyakera has poured cold water on the emerging political alliance between President William Ruto and opposition chief Raila Odinga, dismissing it as a pact rooted in personal interests rather than national vision.

In a strongly worded statement, Nyakera argued that the alliance mirrors the 2007 political partnership between the two leaders — one he says was similarly void of ideology and driven purely by convenience.

According to him, the latest rapprochement is fueled by money and political deals, evidenced by the return of controversial figures such as Adani and other under-the-table arrangements.

Nyakera also claimed the alliance is animated by a shared grudge against the political influence of the Mount Kenya region, suggesting both Raila and Ruto view the region as a threat and have been quick to brand it as “entitled.” .

He further accused the two leaders of showing open disdain for the country’s youth and Gen Z, ignoring the growing calls for real leadership change and reform from a younger, more engaged generation.

“This is not a convergence of ideology or vision, but a desperate power deal between two political veterans clinging to relevance,” said Nyakera.

He warned that the alliance does not reflect the aspirations of ordinary Kenyans but rather the survival instincts of entrenched political elites.

Nyakera’s remarks come amid intensified political speculation over the unity talks between the President and the opposition leader, raising questions about the future of opposition politics and generational change in Kenya’s leadership.
