It has emerged that teacher-turned-vocal politician Mohamed Abduba Dida is serving a seven-year sentence in a United States of America prison.
This ends the mystery of his sudden disappearance from social media, where he aired his antagonistic views against the government.
Dida, who rose to the national limelight during Kenya’s 2013 presidential race, is locked at Big Muddy Correctional Center in Illinois after being found guilty of stalking and threats.
The politician was charged with two counts; stalking and transmitting threats to his victim in Midwestern Mclean County, Illinois, on which he was sentenced to two years in prison.
In the second count, he was convicted of aggravated stalking and violation of a restraining order that barred him from approaching or talking to his victim. For this, he was handed seven years in jail.
The vocal politician filed a petition seeking to be allowed to practice his religion
Dida is set to be released from prison on April 3, 2029.
Notably, he vied for the presidency in the 2013 and 2017 general elections, losing to then president Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, now serving as the president.
