The Ministry of Health today engaged private healthcare providers from the Rural Private Hospitals Association of Kenya (RUPHA), the Kenya Association of Private Hospitals (KAPH), and Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs) to enhance their understanding of the global budget payment mechanism for outpatient services and the rollout of the Social Health Authority (SHA).
Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Mr. Harry Kimtai, noted that the training was part of resolutions from a recent meeting with RUPHA officials and emphasized the Ministryโs commitment to transparency in payments.
He reiterated that ensuring healthcare providers are well-informed about SHAโs operations is key to streamlining service delivery and improving healthcare financing.
The discussions focused on capacity-building for healthcare providers, access to the SHA claims dashboard for efficient tracking of payments, and refining reimbursement models to enhance efficiency in outpatient service payments.
SHA Acting CEO, Mr. Robert Ingarisa, welcomed feedback from stakeholders, stating that their input was crucial in improving the systemโs implementation. RUPHA Chairperson, Dr. Brian Lishenga, described the engagement as productive, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration between the private sector and the government to ensure the successful rollout of the SHA.
The Ministryโs engagement with private healthcare providers is part of a broader effort to integrate stakeholder perspectives into the new healthcare financing model, ensuring equitable access to quality medical services for all Kenyans.
