Ministry of Health has concluded a three-day workshop on drug and substance abuse in Garissa County, culminating in a public baraza that brought together key stakeholders to tackle the growing challenge of substance abuse.
The forum convened representatives from the National and County Governments, development partners, civil society organizations, educational institutions, and the general public.
Discussions emphasized community engagement, policy enforcement, and preventive measures as crucial strategies to protect young people and the broader society from the dangers of drug abuse.

Government and Stakeholder CommitmentSpeaking at the event, Ms. Anne Mathu, Vice Chairperson of the NACADA Board of Directors, underscored the need for collaborative efforts in combating substance abuse, particularly among youth.
Mr. Mawira Mungania, Senior Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Health, reaffirmed the governmentโs commitment to addressing substance abuse through policy, education, and enforcement measures.
On his part, Mr. Sebastian Okiring, Deputy County Commissioner of Garissa County, emphasized the importance of community participation in identifying and addressing drug abuse cases at the grassroots level.
