Kenyan teenager based in Kamulu, Nairobi County, Risper Wambui, has left Kenya for India treatment of Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor(GIST) cancer after a fundraising drive on TikTok to help raise money for her medical care.
Risper left Nairobi on August 25, 2026, morning accompanied by her mother at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to support her as she goes to receive treatment at Gleneagles Hospital Mumbai.
The fundraising drive began on TikTok, where users rallied around Risper’s story, sharing her plight and mobilizing contributions, growing into a national movement, with thousands of Kenyans donating for her to ensure she could access the specialized care.
Risper was also accompanied by community volunteer leader Samuel Sane, Karangu Muraya, Dennis Njuguna, popularly known as Uria Wari Cukura ya Nairobi, David Muraya and Risper family. Sane hoped Risper would get the best treatment in India and recover well.
“Today marks an important step in Risper’s journey toward treatment and recovery. We remain hopeful and continue to stand with her and her family,” Sane said.
Risper has expressed gratitude to everyone who supported her through prayers and words of encouragement and she thanked to those who contributed to her medical journey, including friends, family members, well-wishers and supporters.
TikTokers raised Ksh 2.6 million within two days that would cover her medical expenses and travel. Risper’s family thanked the TikTokers for the contributions. The fundraising efforts came after several content creators used their platforms to draw attention to Risper’s condition.
