Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged Mbeere North residents to rally behind United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Leonard “Leo” Wamuthende, saying the constituency’s development momentum depends on Thursday’s by-election.

Speaking during campaign stops in Ngiiri and Kyenire on Saturday, Kindiki described Wamuthende as a hands-on leader who understands the region’s priorities and has engaged deeply with local communities.

According to the Deputy President, Leo has demonstrated a clear plan to address long-standing challenges such as poor road networks, water shortages, delayed electrification, and gaps in education support.

“We are supporting Wamuthende because he will work with us to complete the projects already underway,” Kindiki said, warning residents not to be swayed by what he termed efforts to derail government development initiatives.

He cautioned voters against “being duped into abandoning the government that is implementing multi-billion-shilling projects” across the constituency.

Kindiki added that the Kenya Kwanza administration settled on Leo due to his strong credentials and commitment to Mbeere North’s long-term growth.

He singled out the local bursary programme as a critical issue in the campaign, claiming that only Wamuthende had committed to continuing support for all students.

“It is only Leo who has affirmed his support for bursaries for every child in this constituency. His opponents want to scrap it, yet it helps so many learners,” he said.

The Deputy President listed ongoing government interventions, including tarmacking of key roads, expansion of water supply systems, electricity connections in homes and trading centres, and construction of new markets.

He assured residents that the government would continue prioritising Mbeere North, saying the region would not be neglected “as happened in previous regimes.”

Kindiki also took aim at leaders supporting the opposition candidate, accusing them of failing to deliver meaningful development during their earlier tenures in public office.

“When we needed them most, they were not here. Now they are back with insults and misinformation,” he said. “Do not be distracted by people who have no record to show.”

He urged residents to turn out in large numbers on Thursday and support the UDA candidate, promising that the government would reciprocate their goodwill.

“We will not forget your support,” he said. “We will complete ongoing projects and bring even more development to this constituency.”
