The Ministry of Health, in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), successfully held a key training session on climate change and health.
The event brought together healthcare professionals, policymakers, public environmental health specialists, and scientists from across the country.
During the closing remarks, Dr. Grace Muchangi, Acting Director of Public Health and Sanitation, highlighted the training’s objective: to build a pool of experts capable of disseminating knowledge on the intersection of climate change and health, as outlined in Kenyaโs Climate Change and Health Strategy 2024-2029.
The main goal was to equip Trainer of Trainers (TOTs) with the necessary skills to guide stakeholders in assessing climate risks, utilizing vulnerability and adaptation tools, and developing the Health National Adaptation Plan.
Participants also explored environmentally sustainable healthcare tools tailored to Kenyaโs specific needs, with a strong emphasis on promoting collaboration in the creation of greening healthcare guidelines.
This initiative marks another step in Kenyaโs efforts to build a climate-resilient health system, ensuring that healthcare professionals are prepared to address the growing health risks associated with climate change.
