The Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK) hosted an empowerment seminar for widows of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel at the 9th Battalion of the Kenya Rifles (9KR) in Eldoret.
The seminar, led by Grace Amogola, Head of the Partnership and Collaboration Pillar, and Regina Mulwa, coordinator of the Kenya Defence Forces Widows and Orphans (KeDWO) programs, provided a platform for the widows to discuss and address common social challenges.
On behalf of MWAK Chairperson Grace Kahariri, Amogola emphasized that the initiative aimed to create a support network for military widows, ensuring they feel valued as an integral part of the KDF family.
“This initiative recognizes the unique challenges faced by KDF widows and seeks to empower them by building resilience and developing collaborative networks crucial for capacity building,” Amogola stated.

The seminar highlighted ongoing and upcoming projects led by the MWAK Chairperson to offer continuous support to the members.
Key topics covered during the seminar included positive parenting, mental health awareness, substance abuse, and an introduction to the various welfare services offered by the Defence Forces Welfare Agencies.
Participants were encouraged to join MWAK to access the full range of welfare services available for serving, retired, and widowed KDF families.

Speakers included representatives from the Defence and Army Headquarters Compensation and Welfare Branches, the Uasin Gishu County Government Health Department, Ampath, and the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Substance Abuse (NACADA).
