Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse has revealed that President William Ruto has rewarded him for sponsoring an impeachment motion against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Notably, Mutuse’s impeachment motion successfully led to the removal of Gachagua from office, with Kithure Kindiki replacing him as Ruto’s principal assistant.
Speaking on Saturday, the lawmaker disclosed that the rewards from the president range from road projects to state appointments and hiring teachers and other workers from Kibwezi West Constituency.
For instance, as part of the give-and-take settlement with Ruto after the lawmaker moved to ouster Gachagua, Mutuse said the Kenya Kwanza government agreed to tarmac the Emali-Ukia Road, which cuts across Makueni county.
The MP said the tarmacking of the 45-kilometre road beginning in February 2025 will be the first new road project by Ruto’s government in the county.
“Gachagua was planning to take KSh 2 billion, which the government received from China, to the Mount Kenya region for tarmacking Mau Mau roads. After I impeached him, the president told me we are going to tarmac Emali-Ukia road," Mutuse said.
