Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has reassured the public of the government’s support in enhancing tourism education and skills development for young people to acquire world-class hospitality competencies.
She described Kenya Utalii College as a fundamental pillar of the country’s touristic achievements.
During her Kenya Utalii College tour, Miano highlighted that what has made Kenya a top global tourism brand aren’t only her spectacular scenes, abundant wildlife, and variety of natural attractions, but most importantly the quality and professionalism of the human resource.
The CS further stated that the hospitality sector which is widely recognized around the world has been developed through top-notch hospitality training institutions like Kenya Utalii College, that for years have been a main centre for tourism and hospitality training in Kenya and the rest of Africa.
The Cabinet Secretary noted that young people are the lifeblood of Kenya’s tourism industry as they provide manpower, creativity, and innovation without which hotels lodges tour companies, and other hospitality establishments couldn’t be able to maintain international standards.
“As we position our tourism sector for unprecedented growth, our focus is heavily anchored on upgrading and empowering our youth with cutting-edge global skills.Our youth are the heartbeat of our tourism sector.” she remarked
Besides the country’s natural bxtractions, what continue to make the visitors come back are the dedication and skills of the hospitality workers who also help in enhancing Kenya’s competitiveness in the global tourism market, she concluded.
Miano assured that expanding training and skills development in the tourism and hospitality sector will be a priority of the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife.
She explained that properly equipping Kenya Utalii College among other institutions will help in graduating a well-trained workforce capable of supporting the sector’s expansion and keeping Kenya as the leading hospitality destination not only in Africa but also globally.
