Meta has announced a new feature that will allow users to obtain a free verified badge across Facebook Marketplace, Dating, Groups and other interactive platforms.
This is to generate content, profiles and messages that will provide a way for one to know a real person on the other side of a profile from impersonators, scammers and bots.
The Facebook verification will use a simple selfie-based process where you record a short video selfie, which checks against your existing profile photos to confirm a match. The process is free and typically takes few minutes while the account must meet trust and safety standards to qualify for verification.
According to Meta, applicants must be 18 years old, have an account history that complies with Facebookâs Community Standards and show no signs of fraudulent behavior.
The introduction of free verification reflects a growing focus among social media platforms on proving that users are genuine as AI-generated identities and online fraud become more difficult to detect.
