Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said that all police officers involved in the Witima ACK Church incident have now been transferred from their stations.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Gachagua said the transfers were preferred over immediate criminal charges.

“In the Witima case, we asked that the officers not be charged but simply transferred,” he said.

Gachagua’s remarks come amid wider changes in the police command, where several senior officers have been redeployed across different regions. Among them is George Seda, the former Nairobi Regional Police Commander, who has been moved to the Western region.
Authorities described his transfer as routine, which improves operational efficiency.

But Gachagua linked the move to the Witima attack, claiming that Seda played a role in facilitating it.

“Regional commander Seda, who supplied guns and vehicles, has been transferred. The other 12 officers have also been posted to different areas,” he said.

The Witima incident, which took place at the ACK Church in Othaya, Nyeri County, has been a big issue with opposition leaders accusing the police of excessive force during the service, sparking public outrage.

In February, opposition leaders announced plans to follow private legal action against 12 police officers and two Members of Parliament allegedly involved in the attack.

Gachagua, however, said the matter is not closed and the officers could still face prosecution in the future.

“All those involved will be charged once we take power in 2027,” he said.

He also issued a warning to police commanders nationwide.

“We are telling all OCSs and OCPDs who allow attacks on innocent Kenyans that they will be held accountable when we take power,” Gachagua added.
