Residents of Kamandura village in Kamirithu, Limuru, Kiambu County, are in shock and mourning following a tragic incident in which a man killed his estranged wife before dying by suicide.

The victim, a 34-year-old mother of three, was ambushed by her recently separated husband on Sunday evening while returning home to her children from a meeting at Kamirithu Shopping Centre.

According to police reports, the woman was walking in the company of another woman when the suspect accosted them, armed with a crude weapon.

The companion managed to escape and alert the village elder, but the assailant violently attacked his wife.

The elder and a search party later discovered the woman’s mutilated body in a cornfield. Efforts to save her were futile, as she had already succumbed to her injuries.

Hours later, the suspect’s body was found hanging from a tree near the scene, confirming an apparent suicide.

Area residents are grappling with the devastating loss, describing the victim as a loving mother and member of the community. The motive behind the tragic act remains unclear, with investigations ongoing.

Kiambu County police have called on the public to seek help in resolving domestic conflicts to avoid such unfortunate incidents.

The tragedy has left a void in the community, with the victim’s three children now orphaned and in need of support.
