Malava MP-elect David Ndakwa has pledged to prioritise the completion of development projects launched by the late MP Malulu Injendi before initiating any new programmes.

Speaking after receiving his election certificate, Ndakwa said continuity would be the foundation of his leadership, noting that preserving Malulu’s legacy was both a duty and an honour.

Ndakwa clinched the seat with 21,564 votes, edging out DAP-K candidate Seth Panyako, who garnered 20,210 votes in a tightly contested race.

He said development in Malava should not be disrupted.

“I will ensure that all ongoing development projects are completed before launching new ones,” he said.

The MP-elect thanked President William Ruto for the chance to vie under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, saying the party had demonstrated confidence in his leadership abilities. He also extended appreciation to his family and supporters for standing by him throughout the campaign period.

Ndakwa commended the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for conducting what he termed a transparent and credible election. He further lauded security agencies for maintaining peace and order, enabling residents to vote without major disruptions.

He urged Malava residents to remain united under his leadership.

“Malava is one, and I will work to ensure that no one is left behind,” he said.

Ndakwa also thanked UDA aspirants who supported him after conceding during party nominations, among them Ryan Injendi, the son of the late Malulu Injendi.

He appealed to his competitors in the by-election to set aside political differences for the sake of the constituency’s development.

“There is only one leader at a time. Today it’s me; tomorrow it could be someone else. Our focus should be the welfare of the people,” he noted.

The MP-elect also appreciated the media for what he described as balanced coverage throughout the campaign.

Malava was among 22 electoral areas where by-elections were conducted on Thursday. UDA also bagged the Baringo senatorial seat and parliamentary seats in Mbeere North and Banisa, alongside several MCA positions.

In other results, ODM’s Boyd Were won the Kasipul parliamentary contest, defeating his closest challenger, Philip Aroko.
