Prague 10km champion Diana Chepkorir is setting her sights on transitioning to the 10,000m, with hopes of making Team Kenya and securing medals at international competitions.
“I look up to Faith (Kipyegon) and Chebet (Beatrice) a lot. This year, I want to challenge myself in the women’s 10,000m and hopefully make Team Kenya and win medals for the country,” said the Ngong-based athlete.
The 3000m steeplechase specialist shared her ambitions after winning the women’s race ahead of Ljubljana Marathon champion Joyce Chepkemoi and 2021 London Marathon winner Joyciline Jepkosgei, who finished second and third, respectively.
Chepkorir’s victory was a pleasant surprise for her.
“Honestly, I didn’t expect to win today, not until the final lap when it hit me. I’ve struggled with tension in the past, but today I was much more relaxed. I believe I’ve grown a lot in my mental strength,” said the 22-year-old.
This victory marks Chepkorir’s second consecutive win, following her triumph in Prague on September 27, where she clocked 30:12 to claim the women’s 10km title.
