Makueni Senator Daniel Kitonga Maanzo has raised concerns over what he termed as the irregular inclusion of six additional candidates in the selection process for commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Speaking during a burial ceremony in Kalawa, Makueni County, Senator Maanzo criticized the ongoing trend of political appointments that, he said, lack transparency and merit.

He warned that such moves threaten to undermine public confidence in vital national institutions.”This trend of making appointments without merit erodes public trust and compromises the integrity of key institutions like the IEBC,” Maanzo stated.

The senator called for adherence to due process and merit-based appointments, emphasizing that the credibility of the IEBC is crucial as the country prepares for future elections.

The reconstitution of the IEBC has remained a contentious issue in the political arena, with various stakeholders calling for an inclusive and transparent process to ensure the electoral body regains public trust following the fallout from previous elections.
