The newly established Lake Gas Limited Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) storage facility in Kilifi County is set to receive its first consignment of gas in two weeks, marking a significant step toward lowering LPG prices in the country.

Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, who toured the ultramodern facility located in Vipingo, hailed the project as a major achievement of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

He said the storage plant, with a capacity of 12,000 metric tonnes, will play a critical role in stabilizing gas supply and reducing the cost of cooking gas for Kenyan households.“This is a milestone that will not only boost Kenya’s energy security but also help cushion citizens from the high cost of living through reduced LPG prices,” Wandayi stated during the inspection visit.

The project, developed through a public-private partnership, is one of the largest of its kind in the region. Kilifi County Governor Gideon Mung’aro lauded the investment, emphasizing the county’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment for investors in the energy sector.“We are proud to host this strategic facility which has already created numerous employment opportunities for locals,” said Governor Mung’aro.

The Lake Gas storage plant is expected to enhance the country’s LPG distribution infrastructure and reduce dependency on road transportation of gas from distant ports, ultimately improving efficiency and affordability for consumers nationwide.
