Huduma Kenya has warned Kenyans to be careful after a fake email account was used to impersonate the agency’s Chief Executive Officer.
The agency issued the warning on Monday, August 17, after some of its staff reported receiving emails from an account claiming to be linked to the Office of the CEO.
Huduma Kenya said the email is not an official communication channel and asked members of the public not to respond to suspicious messages or share personal and other sensitive information.
“Huduma Kenya would like to inform the public about fraudulent emails posing as communications from the Office of the CEO. Kindly be wary of anything that looks suspicious or of any sensitive information,” the agency informed in a statement.
Additionally, the body urged Kenyans to verify the email address before responding to any message that claims to be from Huduma Kenya.
The official email for the CEO of Huduma Kenya is ceo@hudumakenya.go.ke, according to Huduma Kenya.
Anyone receiving such a suspicious email purporting to originate from the office of the CEO was advised not to respond or provide any details required by the sender.
The new warning is not the first time that fraudsters have used the Huduma Kenya name to defraud members of the public.
Back in February, the agency issued an alert to Kenyans over fraudulent recruitment offers targeting job seekers in Huduma Centres.
According to reports, fraudsters were sending fraudulent appointment letters, purportedly signed by the Director General, and promising jobs at Huduma Centres in Kenya.
Huduma Kenya said at the time that it was not carrying out mass recruitment and asked Kenyans to ignore the fake job offers.
The agency has again reminded the public that its official information is shared through verified channels, including its website, Huduma Contact and Tele-Counselling Centre.
For the latest scam, Huduma Kenya has asked anyone who comes across the suspicious email to report it to the agency’s ICT department.
The warning comes as fraudsters continue to use the names of government agencies and senior officials to make their messages appear genuine and convince people to share information or take action.
