Laikipia University Vice Chancellor Joseph Rotich has been fined 500 thousand shillings by a parliamentary watchdog committee for failing to file requisite responses with the office of auditor general.

The National Assembly public investment committee on education and governance chased away the institution’s management and directed the fine should not be drawn from the University’s accounts.

Earlier the committee lauded the management of Tharaka Nithi University for being the first institution with no audit queries since it was given a charter in 2022.

The contrasting outcomes highlight growing pressure on public universities to uphold transparency and accountability in their financial operations.
