Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has emphasized the government’s commitment to bringing services closer to the people through the creation of new administrative units, which he says will also play a vital role in enhancing security in previously volatile regions.

Speaking during the official opening of the Kirimon Division Headquarters in Laikipia North Constituency on Friday, Kindiki said the establishment of such units will not only improve access to critical government services but also ensure rapid response by security agencies, allowing citizens to live and work in peace.

“The new units will facilitate prompt response by security agencies and enable citizens to conduct their daily businesses safely,” he stated.

The Deputy President noted that significant progress has been made in pacifying the North Rift Valley counties, which have for years been plagued by banditry and livestock rustling.

He said areas such as Laikipia, Samburu, Baringo, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Turkana were now safer following sustained security operations and dismantling of criminal networks.

“We have made tremendous progress in dismantling banditry and livestock rustling networks that for years terrorised residents and impoverished them economically,” he added.

Kindiki further highlighted the government’s ongoing investments in modern security infrastructure, including surveillance technology, protective gear for frontline officers, and the deployment of more National Police Reservists (NPRs) to complement efforts by the National Police Service and the Kenya Defence Forces.

“We are sealing all remaining gaps in the fight against banditry through technology, increased manpower, and enhanced protective equipment for our officers,” he said.
