Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen urges the Kenya Judiciary to give higher sentences to individuals who who cause violence at political rallies.
Murkomen delivered his message in Kesegon, Trans-Nzoia county, where he was officiating at the Cheregany Cup, Sinyere ward finals. Discussing the increasing incidents of violence at political gatherings, Murkomen remarked that the Judiciary is quite capable of supporting the security agencies in drastically reducing the problem.
He pleaded with the courts to come up with strong and unequivocal decisions that would compel the administration of justice swiftly, particularly when the case against the accused is well-established.
The CS pointed out the necessity for the Ministry of Interior to collaborate very closely with the Judiciary stating that this kind of cooperation can not only be instrumental in restoring peace but also in guaranteeing that the citizens enjoy political freedom without any apprehension.
“As our security agencies intensify efforts to bring those responsible to book, we call on the Judiciary to treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves and to set a firm precedent that will deter all those who seek to engage in such acts, now and in the future,” he said.
