Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has reaffirmed the Kenya Kwanza administration’s commitment to strengthening the country’s health system, citing ongoing reforms aimed at delivering Universal Health Coverage (UHC) to all Kenyans.
Speaking during a visit to Kericho County, CS Duale outlined key pillars of the government’s Taifa Care Model, including the nationwide rollout of the Social Health Authority (SHA) registration and benefit packages, as well as the digitization of healthcare services to improve efficiency and accountability.
“The operationalization of the Taifa Care Model will transform health service delivery across the country, ensuring that every Kenyan can access affordable, quality care,” said Duale.

In a major boost for the South Rift region, the Cabinet Secretary announced plans to establish a Level 6 Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kericho.
The facility, to be developed in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB), will provide advanced medical services and serve as a training hub for health professionals.
“This hospital will be a game-changer for Kericho and the surrounding counties. It will improve access to specialized care and significantly support our Universal Health Coverage agenda,” he added.
CS Duale also called on county governments to fully integrate all Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities into the SHA system to ensure equitable access to health services, particularly in rural communities.
He was hosted by Kericho Governor H.E. Erick Mutai and accompanied by National Assembly Majority Leader Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah, alongside other senior national and county leaders.
