The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has responded to public concern over newly erected walls along Kenyatta Avenue in Nairobi.

In a statement released on Friday, July 25, KURA stated that the structures are temporary hoarding walls, placed for the safety of both pedestrians and motorists during ongoing road works.

“These are temporary,” the agency noted, suggesting the fences are meant to safeguard the public against possible harm while repairs are done.

The walls, which appeared at the start of the week, had raised online queries, with some Nairobians curious about their purpose and whether they were a risk themselves.

KURA said the maintenance work is part of a wider upgrade targeting several busy city roads. So far, repairs have resumed along Valley Road, Kenyatta Avenue, Ngong Road, Nyerere Road Interchange, and the Upper Hill–Haile Selassie Overpass.

KURA requested the public to ignore “misleading information” and assured that public safety is still a priority despite the works being carried out.
