President William Ruto has lauded the pivotal role Kenyans in the diaspora are playing in the development of the country.
While engaging Kenyans living in Egypt, where he is on a two-day state visit, President Ruto disclosed that diaspora remittances have become Kenya’s largest foreign exchange earner, surpassing the traditional tea, cut flowers and coffee.
The president said the remittances earned Kenya over KSh 638.65b in 2024 and thanked the Kenyans abroad for their contributions to the country’s economy, changing lives.
“The monies you send home are not just numbers, they are transforming lives, uplifting families, and driving progress in villages across the country,” said Ruto.
The president noted that Kenyans are famed for hard work and innovation and that is why there is high demand for them in many parts of the world.
President Ruto has leveraged Kenya’s knowledgeable, skilled and experienced human capital, sourcing employment opportunities for them abroad.
This is part of the larger plan by President Ruto’s administration to tackle unemployment.
