An assistant county commissioner in Bomet County has been arrested for allegedly demanding a KSh 20,000 bribe.
EACC officers based in Nakuru picked up Emkwen Division’s Martin Vaslaus Jakoyo on Thursday and booked him at the Bomet Central Police Station.
Investigators say the cash was allegedly meant to “settle” a dispute between two villagers, a matter that had already been handled by local Nyumba Kumi elders.
Some chiefs from Bomet Central Sub-county, who asked not to be named, told this reporter the arrest didn’t come as a surprise.
Jakoyo was accused of frustrating their campaign work against illegal brews, claiming he often used his office to agitate for his own selfish interests.
Police indicate that he will be held in custody as the investigation continues.
